VOLUNTEER TO PARTICIPATE IN LWVB DOOR-TO-DOOR REGISTRATION IN BLOOMINGTON MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 29, 10AM-1PM
June, there were lots of workshops on increasing voter turnout. A number of speakers stressed that the #1 most effective way to connect with voters is to do so by going door-to-door. Studies have shown that to be the case. As stated in one study, "Canvassing seems to work best when voters who don't care much about politics engage in a genuine conversation about why voting is important.
SO, LWVB is initiating a door-to-door voter registration drive on September 29. Here's how it will work:
We will meet at Smith Park at 10:00 a.m. League members who are experienced in door-to-door drives will train us on how to do this. A recommended script will be distributed before-hand. As you know, it will be nonpartisan, will be designed to encourage voting, offer voter registration, provide information by distribution of our Voters Info Guide, and extend info about our October 2 candidate forum.
Coffee and bagels will be provided! Neighbors, friends and family are welcome.
We will go door-to-door in Precinct 2, chosen based on its voter turnout relative to registered voters in 2016.
We will go in pairs, so don't worry if you don't have experience with this! You can pair with someone who does have experience, with a friend, or with whomever you choose!
Although we are not soliciting, we will not attempt contact at any home that has a no solicitation sign.
We will spend two hours, from 10:30 to 12:30 going door-to-door in our assigned areas, and will then regroup to share our experiences. We'll be done by 1:00!
