June, there were lots of workshops on increasing voter turnout.  A number of speakers stressed that the #1 most effective way to connect with voters is to do so by going door-to-door.  Studies have shown that to be the case.  As stated in one study, "Canvassing seems to work best when voters who don't care much about politics engage in a genuine conversation about why voting is important.

SO, LWVB is initiating a door-to-door voter registration drive on September 29.  Here's how it will work:

  • We will meet at Smith Park at 10:00 a.m.  League members who are experienced in door-to-door drives will train us on how to do this.  A recommended script will be distributed before-hand.  As you know, it will be nonpartisan, will be designed to encourage voting, offer voter registration, provide information by distribution of our Voters Info Guide, and extend info about our October 2 candidate forum.

  • Coffee and bagels will be provided!  Neighbors, friends and family are welcome.

  • We will go door-to-door in Precinct 2, chosen based on its voter turnout relative to registered voters in 2016.

  • We will go in pairs, so don't worry if you don't have experience with this!  You can pair with someone who does have experience, with a friend, or with whomever you choose!

  • Although we are not soliciting, we will not attempt contact at any home that has a no solicitation sign.

  • We will spend two hours, from 10:30 to 12:30 going door-to-door in our assigned areas, and will then regroup to share our experiences.  We'll be done by 1:00!
