Our Commitment to Advocacy

The League of Women Voters of Bloomington is dedicated to advocating for policies that uphold the principles of democracy, promote transparency, and protect the rights of all citizens. Our advocacy efforts are rooted in thorough research, informed discussion, and a commitment to nonpartisanship. We work tirelessly to influence public policy on a range of critical issues that impact our community and beyond.

Advocacy in Action

Our chapter engages in advocacy by:

  • Educating the Public: Hosting forums, workshops, and discussions to inform citizens about key issues and policies.

  • Lobbying Legislators: Meeting with local, state, and national representatives to advocate for our positions.

  • Collaborating with Partners: Working with like-minded organizations to amplify our impact and reach.

  • Mobilizing Voters: Encouraging active participation in the democratic process through voter registration and education initiatives.

The LWV Platform

The League of Women Voters has a comprehensive platform that guides our advocacy work. Our key positions include:

  1. Voting Rights: Ensuring that every eligible citizen has the right and ability to vote. We advocate for policies that expand access to the ballot box and protect against voter suppression.

  2. Government Transparency and Accountability: Promoting open and responsive government at all levels. We support measures that increase transparency, reduce corruption, and ensure public officials are accountable to the people.

  3. Environmental Protection: Advocating for policies that address climate change, protect natural resources, and promote sustainability. We believe in science-based solutions to environmental challenges.

  4. Healthcare Access: Supporting policies that ensure affordable, high-quality healthcare for all. We believe that healthcare is a fundamental human right.

  5. Education: Promoting equitable access to quality education for all students. We advocate for funding and policies that support public education and educational equity.

  6. Social and Economic Justice: Working to eliminate discrimination and promote policies that ensure fairness and equality in all aspects of society. We support measures that address income inequality and protect civil rights.

  7. Gun Safety: Advocating for common-sense gun laws that protect public safety while respecting the rights of responsible gun owners. We support measures to reduce gun violence.

  8. Equal Rights Amendment (ERA): Supporting the ratification and implementation of the ERA to ensure that equal rights under the law are not denied or abridged on account of sex.
